new york city is built on trash
This project uses historical maps, images and text to tell the story of landfilling in New York City. The map is meant to transform conceptions of trash, urban space, and land use by illuminating the ubiquity of waste in our lives.
The images were found in NYPL's digital collections, the spatial data was georectified from this study in GIS, and the final website was produced with Carto's Odyssey.
